Are You Socially Distant on Social Media? Strategies that Cultivate Connection

Social media allows you to use your voice in a powerful way. What do I post?

When creating content, ask yourself, “How can I bring value to my followers?” You can ask this question as you approach each social media platform, whether that’s Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. People may be looking to be entertained, which calls for some humor and meme-like content. Or, people may find more value in content that’s informational or motivational. Some people also enjoy seeing the process, so include some behind the scenes posts. By looking to add value to whoever comes across your posts, you can connect with your community in a meaningful way while bringing value to your business.

How often should I post? 

Consistency is key, and to build a strong social media presence, aim to post at least 5x a week, if not daily. The answer to this question also depends on the platform you’re using. Here are tips for two of the most common social media platforms: Instagram and Facebook.

On Instagram, you should post at least once per day, with a max of 3 posts per day. The minimum amount you should be posting is 1x-3x per week.

 

On Facebook, you should post once a day, with a max of two posts per day. The minimum amount you should be posting is 3x per week.

 

Knowing when to post is another key when it comes to strategy, and one way of seeing which times are the best to post is to look at when your followers are most active. Post within this window so that your content gets in front of your followers. 

 

Staying consistent and relatable?

Creating a content calendar can help you visualize what types of posts are going out on certain days, so that you can easily rearrange posts to create a strong visual brand. To create content that connects with your followers, paying attention to what your followers respond to/are talking about are keys to creating content that connects. Also pay attention to any trends you notice (eg. types of graphics, memes, etc.) and find a way that you can apply them to your posts. Sharing authentic user-generated posts is another way to stay connected to your users.
